I like to hike the Butte. Looking down from almost any rest spot I can see the Reindeer Farm, and notice that there is a lot of action almost any day. That’s when I often comment, “we should go do that”- well we finally did. This time, I was part of the action. When we arrived at the farm’s parking lot I could not believe how full it was. I also could not believe how reasonable was the admission at $10 a person. The first thing I saw when I walked through the gate was a picture perfect pumpkin patch. After walking through the pumpkins to the center of the action I realized just how much there was to do. There were horse drawn carriages, a hot chocolate hut, and a food cart. Should we feed the horses first or ride them? For a minute or two I was not sure which way to go.
I could see that the hay ride was about to begin so my crew and I hopped on. What I thought was going to be a stroll round the farm actually turned out to be a ride to the other side of the farm. A very cool ride at that. This is were I found my two favorites of the farm.
First was the Hay Bale Maze. This was no dinky maze ether. It took a good 20 minutes to navigate. I could see over the bales but that only offered minimal help, however, I eventually did get to feel the success of mastering the maze.
Second favorite was the potato launching sling-shot. The goal was to hit the blue barrels and scare crows that were about a football field away. We each got 5 tries and if we hit the target we could pick from the treasure chest. If you ask me the prize is getting to launch a potato at high speed.
When we were done enjoying our time at the back of the property we hopped back on the hay ride which brought us back to where we started. But we weren’t ready to leave because there was much more fun to be had. Rabbit holding, Hot chocolate sipping and spooky barn exploring were next.
I found it very hard to resist the “pretty please can we take a rabbit home? PPLLLLEEEAASE.”
Last but not least for me and my crew was to feed the reindeer from our hands. SO fun and exciting! You might think that the reindeer would mistake your finger for food but they have mastered how to eat the food and not you.
This experience was just as fun for me as it was for my kids and nephew. Not only did I enjoy the Reindeer Farm but I enjoyed wathcing the kids having fun and being adventurous in a cool safe way!
