KA-CHING
The state is funnelling lots of money into the borough. Much of this is needed for infrastructure improvements. See the detailed projects here: borough capital budget
We are going to need to develop our resources in order to pay for these in the long run. While it’s important to build new infrastructure for our growing state, we need to realize that it needs to be maintained over the long run. Without resource development we will not be able to do that.
We also need to be open to to other possibilities that may work in Alaska. Farming has been a hit and miss endeavor for years…mostly miss. But as demand grows for more organically grown meat and other produce there is a possible opportunity for Alaskans as long as transportation can be economical enough. That is where the port may come in, we will see.
