So I had about an hour to spare and decided to see if I could make it out to Point Mackenzie and back.
Weeeelll. Point Mac is a little further out there than I remembered. It seems I said that they last time I drove out there. When I passed Holstein Road I recalled from the map that it was still a ways further so after glancing at the time reluctantly turned around.
On the way back I stopped at Point Mackenzie General Store for a diet rockstar to keep me
going. This is a neat little store, Owners Jeff and Julie Wendt are well set up to service visitors as Point Mackenzie grows. They have groceries, gas, cabin rentals, RV parking, showers, espresso, fenced storage, and a cafe. I was wishing for more time to look around at the attractive log cabins but time was a’wastin so I headed on out, with a reminder to myself to stay for a burger or something next time.
On the way back to Settlers Bay I had to stop at Knik to take a photo of the receding tide of the Knik Arm. No, I didn’t see any beluga whales but according to the studies they spend a lot of the winter in this area. I wonder what in the world they are finding to eat in those waters.
Sorry about the poor quality photos, I only had my iphone with me.
