We had Michelle and Corrine from Mat-Su borough permitting in our office meeting yesterday. They offered some interesting tidbits of info that I thought I would pass on.
First, there are thousands…and thousands…….and more thousands of unpermitted driveways in the borough. The borough has a goal to get all the old driveways permitted. To that end, if your driveway shows up on the borough aerial surveys in 2017 you get a FREE permit as long as you apply between Oct 1, 2023 and Sept 30, 2024. Of course, your driveway needs to meet the borough guidelines.
Second, borough cleanup is Sept 16-30 this year. That means no dump fees. This would be a good time to clean up the backyard. Or front yard depending on your need. I’m talking to myself here.
OH…can’t forget the “Voluntary/Mandatory Permit”. Can you say that with a straight face? If you want a building permit or if you want a permit to do anything on your lot you can go down and get a voluntary permit. I don’t really understand why anyone would do that but apparently, there are people who just aren’t comfortable unless they have permission to do something. But for some things the permit is mandatory. Like building in a flood zone for example. Get this…it’s the same permit, but it’s voluntary if you just want a permit. So if you need extra paperwork for your file go get a permit…
