What You Need To Know About the 2022 Alaska State Fair
Dates
The 2022 Alaska State Fair will be taking place this year from August 19 to September 5, 2022. The fair will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Operation Hours
The state fair is open from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
Location
The Alaska State Fairgrounds are south of Palmer along the Glenn Highway. If you’re driving from Anchorage, be prepared for traffic congestion.
You can enter the fairgrounds through the purple, red, yellow, and green gates. Parking is available at three entrances, except the green gate. Parking at the fairgrounds is $5/day per vehicle, and RV parking with extended options is also available.
Admission Fee
If you purchase online by August 18, you can save up to 22% on daily admission! On Mondays and Thursdays, the entrance fee is only $7 for those aged 6 to 12 (youth) and 65 and over (seniors). Adults aged 13 to 64 are $11.Otherwise, the price goes up from Friday to Sunday — $13 for adults and $8 for youth and seniors.
You can also buy tickets for groups for the entire duration of the fair here. Carnival ride packages and other discounted tickets are also available.
Daily Fun
The Alaska State Fair is the perfect place to enjoy a little bit of everything with many fun events. There are daily concerts, dance performances, and talent shows throughout the grounds, so you’ll stay entertained all week long.
You can look forward to some concerts, including that of CAAMP, Chris Janson, Blue Öyster Cult, Toby Mac, and more.
Exhibits
There’s something for everyone at the Alaska State Fair in Palmer. From photography to pottery, quilting to woodworking—the variety of skills on display is impressive. You can visit the Hoskins and Irwin Buildings for these exhibits.
You also don’t want to miss visiting the Farm Exhibits pavilion to see all the livestock raised by local 4-Hers. You’ll also be amazed at the sight of giant fruits and vegetables grown under the Midnight Sun. The Fair hosts the Giant Cabbage Weigh-Off, another of the Fair’s signature events.
