Over 40 years ago, my family settled in the Mat-Su Valley. As a child growing up here, I became thoughtfully aware of the value of community. At the time, the Mat-Su Valley was a vast area with a small population. It was in this unique setting that I was able to see the significant impact of the being part of such a special place. My reverence for this community has never left me and continues to guide my path to this day.
My love for the sciences began with a set of influential teachers in my youth and an adventurous family who instilled in me, the love for the outdoors. Both had such a profound effect on me that I decided to pursue a baccalaureate degree in biological sciences while working for ADF&G and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Again, a common thread was weaved into my education through the sciences, my family, and those teachers of my youth: a deep respect for the community in which I lived.
As the next page of my story was turned, I began to ask myself: how do I give back to this community that has done so much for me? My answer came to me through the decision to continue my education. I went on to complete a second baccalaureate degree in English and a master’s degree in education. This path provided me with the skills and education necessary to secure a secondary English teaching position at Palmer High School.
After 16 years in the classroom, I’ve decided to serve my community in a dual capacity: continuing my teaching career while pursuing real estate. This seems a natural fir for many reasons, one being that I grew up in the world of construction through my father and brother’s longstanding, reputable construction firm in the valley. I’m drawn to real estate for the same reason I’m drawn to teaching: both are work of the heart, allowing me to contribute in a was that I find meaningful. Real Estate represents the confluence of my life experiences and passions: bringing my work with the land, the people, and the community together in one place.
I am excited and hopeful for the opportunity to work with many who I may already know in the community, while expanding my circle to serve member of the community I’ve not had the opportunity to meet, as well as new members to this community, or those entertaining the thought of heading “North to Alaska!” and making this beautiful landscape the place that you too, can call home.
