Glacier View and Matanuska Glacier

Glacier View, a small community in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, is a 450 square-mile region found between mileposts 100 and 120 of the Glenn Highway about 60 miles east of Palmer. There are under 400 permanent residents living in Glacier View, and private land available for sale around Glacier View is rather limited. There are a few lodges, a cafe, and an RV park in the area, but for more extensive services residents must travel to Palmer, Wasilla, or Anchorage. Glacier View does have a K-12 school serving roughly 35 students.

As indicative of its name, Glacier View is famous for being home to the sprawling Matanuska Glacier. Several businesses here revolve around tourism at the glacier, providing activities such as glacier hikes, ice climbing, river rafting in the summer, and skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. The site also has two of the fastest ziplines in Southern Alaska, and various hiking trails exist in the area, allowing hikers to go wildlife viewing or berry picking. Glacierview is also home to Matanuska Glacier State Recreation Area south of Glacier Park. This 229-acre recreational park is a place for families to camp and gets a good view of Matanuska River's glacier and headwaters.
