Iditarod Restart At Willow March 9th, 2010
Our family went up to watch the Iditarod Race start at Willow on Sunday. We met several other families at the same point we congregate at every year. With the fire already started and hot dog sticks cut we were ready for the first dog team to come on by which
He was ushered by by several snowmachines pacing the first musher on the trail.
We enjoyed watching all the teams come by, they were running well at that point only about 10 miles into the race. The mushers were in good moods and high-fived all the kids standing by the trail.
With 71 dog teams, hundreds and maybe thousands of snowmachines, constant airplanes and helicopters it certainly wasn’t a quiet day in the wilderness, but fun nevertheless and has become a family tradition for all the families and cousins. It was nice to visit with friends that we don’t get to often see and such a relaxed setting while waiting for the next team down the trail. For a taste of the day, watch the video below.
